Lutheran Church of the Redeemer is a member of the Southeastern Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Lutherans believe that we are saved by God's grace through faith. We preach the Good News of salvation. Our worship services are liturgical and focus on repenting our sins and receiving forgiveness, praising God, celebrating Holy Communion, and being sent forth to spread the Word of Christ.

Redeemer is organized into commissions, with each group handling a part of the church ministry. Committees under each commission do the actual work.

Community

The Community Commission is responsible for the grounds and property. We sometimes have specific persons with assigned responsibilities.

The Property Committee calls upon the talents of the congregation as needed to do the usual tasks, but we normally contract out the big painting or rebuilding.

There is a group that meets at the church from about 8am to about noon every Saturday to mow the grass, trim bushes, blow off the parking lot, check light bulbs, restroom supplies, and do general maintenance.

Congregational Life

All fellowship opportunities come under this commission, including Youth Groups, Sunshine Club, and the mens' and womens' groups.

YUC

Our Youth Under Construction group is a dynamic group of young people who do fun and inspirational things together and with other youth groups. They meet most Sunday evenings from 6pm to 8pm for dinner, fun, worship, music, and service. See the Youth page for more info.

Kids for Christ

Kids for Christ are youth from third to fifth grade. They meet monthly for fun, games, fellowship, worship, and service. See the Youth page for more info.

Evangelism

Evangelism works to spread the word about our congregation to the community and works to make our church a welcoming place and a welcoming community.

Hospitality

Hospitality handles the receptions for baptisms, confirmation, new members, baby showers, and other fun functions. This group also manages the kitchen and coordinates the Wednesday night dinners and other meal occasions. There are plenty of opportunities for cooks and bakers.

Learning

Learning handles all of the Sunday School classes. We have children's classes from 2-years old up, Catechism for preparing youth for Confirmation, and two different adult classes.

We also have a week-long Vacation Bible School every summer.

Mutual Ministry

Mutual Ministry deals with the well-being of the Pastor and the church staff. The Personnel Commitee deals with personnel-type issues.

Social Ministry

Redeemer supports organizations such as Hope House of Savannah by providing a Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner. Periodically, we provide a collection of household goods to help the young single mothers get their feet back on the ground. We also work through Lutheran Ministries of Georgia to provide help for others.

Stewardship

Stewardship is in charge of the finances. Every fall we have a Stewardship compaign to gather pledges for giving for the year.

We have an Endowment committee which oversees a capital fund. Each year the Endowment committee disburses the earnings from the fund.

The Finance Committee is tasked with helping Church Council oversee the finances and the budget. The Finance Committee recommends actions for Council and is responsible for assembling the budget with Council input.

Worship

Our Pastor and music leaders are responsible for the worship services themselves, but the commission handles the budget for worship and music supplies and for the recruiting and training of Worship assistants such as acolytes, ushers, and lectors. The Altar Guild reports through this commission.
